From the
President's Desk:
Welcome to the Tri-State Chapter of SHRM in the Texarkana metroplex! The Mission of our Chapter is to serve the needs of the Human Resource (HR) community as well as advance the working knowledge of the HR Professional. To meet and achieve these goals, we provide a variety of comprehensive programs, provide a networking community within the HR profession, and continually strive to improve the professional competence and standards of our members. Our Chapter has several accomplishments to sing accolades over this year. First and foremost, we are celebrating our 10th year of service and growth in the community. As one of the founding members of our organization, this is a milestone for me. I have been able to chart our Chapter’s progress and see where it has grown in the HR profession, all in what seems to be just a very short period of time. I would be doing our Chapter a disservice, if I did not mention those who envisioned the need for a Human Resource organization in the community and their continued commitment and dedication to the Tri-State Chapter over the past years. Including me, those founding members are: Debbie Butler, Dwayne Butler, Julie Collins, George DeLoach, Joey Martin, Dianne Johnson, Robert Johnson, Diane Leverett, Denny Peterson, and Bob Smith. The organization has grown over the years to almost 90 members strong, with HR professionals from all walks of life. Our extended family in the community is comprised of representation from Banking institutions, Chamber of Commerce representatives, Hospitals, Insurance specialists, Law firms, Manufacturing plants, Non-profit organizations, Private employment firms, Realtors, Training specialists, and Workforce center representatives. Another landmark for our Chapter was the establishment of our Scholarship Foundation in 2006. The objective of the Scholarship Foundation is to provide some financial support for those members within the organization that are in the process of completing their education. We maintain this goal by producing quality seminars each year for the community to participate in at a minimal cost. This combination is a win-win situation for those continuing their education as well as those in the HR profession wanting to stay abreast of pressing issues and trends in today’s market. Our general membership meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 p.m., at the Texarkana Public Library, Downtown. I encourage each and every one of you that are not already members of our Chapter in the HR community to visit us during our monthly meetings and enjoy the benefits that Tri-State SHRM has to offer and become a part of this active organization. If you are a National Member of SHRM and have not chosen your home organization yet, please visit us during our monthly meetings. Not only will you find a warm friendly atmosphere, you will see a networking community eager to assist your needs in HR. Please give Tri-State SHRM the opportunity to showcase the opportunities this Chapter has to offer. You can contact me if you have any questions or would like more information about our Chapter at 870-772-4039.
My Best Regards,
